The generic term ‘roque’, by which this hill is known, is the word used in the Canarian lexicon to refer to rocks that rise up on dry land or in the sea.
As for its nickname “del Conde”, this refers to Juan Bautista de Herrera y de Ponte Ayala y Rojas, 3rd Marquis of Adeje and 8th Count of La Gomera, owner of the manorial estate of Adeje on which the rock stood.
Before the 18th century, when it began to be known as Roque del Conde, it was known as Mount Abyo, Ahiyo, Ayyo or Ayo, which was the name by which the Guanche indigenous people knew it. It also appears in historical records as the fortress of Adeje. For his part, the historian Juan Bethencourt Alfonso noted that as early as the mid-19th century it was known as Roque de Hío or Arona.
The name Roque de Ichasagua is the result of a renaming process following the publication of Juan Bethencourt Alfonso’s work *Historia del pueblo Guanche* in 1991. This work states that Ichasagua, chief of the Guanche people who resisted the Castilian conquest, had established his court at the Roque del Conde.
Set against this stunning backdrop, we are offering for sale in the residential area of Roque del Conde – very close to the Gran Sur shopping centre, the Siam Mall and San Eugenio shopping centre, Siam Park water park and the beaches of Costa Adeje – a third-floor flat with lift access, comprising 2 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a spacious living room, an open-plan kitchen, a large terrace with incredible views of the sea and La Gomera, and a parking space in a secure communal garage.
